A bumblebee will always be a bumblebee. It can never be a hornet. What I am trying to say is, in the case of Transformers, the organic transforming robot hero Bumblebee can never be a Prime. He is like a serious workhorse, a loyal follower of the good who can be pretty immature at times (we’re talking about the Michael Bay’s version of Transformers here, in case you are lost at this point). But that does not mean we can’t dream of the ‘what if’ and in this instance, it’s the what if Bumblebee rise through the ranks and takes on the Matrix of Leadership i.e. becomes a Prime?
Actually, to be honest, we cannot imagine Bee being the leader, but we don’t really need to as artist Enjaysee Customs has painstakingly turned a DotM Sentinel Prime action figure into one that bears the feature of Bumblebee (mainly the head, a retro one to boot and the iconic yellow paint job), effectively turning the beloved Bee into a Sentinel Prime and so, all we have to do is to look at the Custom Transformers Bumblebee DotM Sentinel Prime and see Bumblebee as the Prime. Obviously, not everyone will be amused by Enjaysee Customs’ creation. Some will even loathe the idea, probably as much as they loathe the concept of Bee being a Camaro instead of the classic VW Beetle.
As for us, we don’t really give a damn, because the Custom Transformers Bumblebee DotM Sentinel Prime ‘transformed’ by Enjaysee Customs look amazing. We appreciate the non-plasticky look and the rustic touches just adds to the realism, whether or not Bee could ever be a Prime. Heck, it looks 100x better than any of Bay’s Transformers, if you ask me. Keep going for a few more look, but before that there are some words straight from the horses’s mouth that you might want to check it out.
“So, what would happen if Bumblebee had no choice but to take the Matrix and step up. Upgraded and seriously pissed off is my vision of exactly that! Base used was a leader class DotM Sentinel Prime. The back pack was removed and hinges added to allow the figure to look much better from the side as well as stand more easily. It was next partly dismantled, primed with top quality plastic primer and prominent screw holes filled. The hands are by UFO and fully articulated at every joint. The head was designed by myself, 3D printed via shapeways and mounted using a Lego ball joint to allow more freedom of movement. The large guns are from a RotF Prime figure, the small guns and sword are by Dr Wu and the medium turrets are by the excellent FakeBuster on Shapeways. The whole figure was painted by hand and decals designed by myself and printed on a professional Alps printer.”
