Sony has just announced its yearly update of its premium smartphone, the Xperia 1. Outfitted with a telephoto optical zoom lens with a wide and user-friendly focal length from 85 mm to 170 mm, the new Sony Xperia 1 VI offers up to x7.1 zoom, promising long-distance shooting “in superb detail.”
It also promises to capture professional portraits with exquisite bokeh effects. Furthermore, the 24 mm wide angle lens features Exmor T for mobile image sensor for excellent low-light imaging, and high-speed AF using AF tracking with human pose estimation powered by, you guessed it, AI.
AI goes beyond imaging with this premium device; the display, too, benefits from AI. The Xperia 1 VI’s display is enhanced using AI image adjustment technology “Powered by BRAVIA” that reproduces the image quality of Sony’s BRAVIA TV on the display. The speakers have been upgraded too.
Speaking of audio, the new Xperia 1 V1 also benefits from a new Premium Audio Circuit for 3.5 mm wired headphones, and the device supports the latest audio industry technologies and formats, including High-Resolution Audio, High-Resolution Audio Wireless, LDAC, Bluetooth LE Audio (Low Energy), and Snapdragon Sound.
Imaging, it has a tri-camera setup, featuring a 52 MP 1/3.5” Exmor T for mobile sensor main camera, a 12 MP 1/3.5” Exmor RS for mobile telephoto camera, and a 12 MP 1/2.5” Exmor RS for mobile super wide-angle camera.
Meanwhile, there is a 12 MP 1/2.9” Exmor RS for mobile sensor on the 120 Hz 6.5” 19.5:9 FHD+ HDR OLED display.
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB UFS, and is expandable up to 1.5 TB with a microSDXC card. It is outfitted with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports USB PD fast charging, as well as Qi wireless charging.
In addition, the Xperia 1 VI supports the new wireless standard Wi-Fi 7. It is worth mentioning that the device features a vapor chamber heat-dissipating component that, along with a new low-power consumption display and unique power efficiency technology, allows the new Xperia 1 over 36 hours of continuous video playback.
Other details include Bluetooth 5.4, USB 3.2 with Type-C interface, fingerprint sensor, dual SIM support, and Zeiss lenses.
We heard it is not coming to the U.S. Not sure if that will change later. However, it will be available to buy from early June in the U.K. and Europe for £1,299 and €1,399, respectively.
