At the recent auction by RM Sotheby’s in Paris, a one-of-a-kind piece of Bugatti history and the last of the W16-powered car was sold at a record price of over US$10 million. At an RM Sotheby’s auction in Paris on February 01, a 2022 Bugatti Chiron Profilée was sold for an astounding 9,792,500 Euros (around US$10.56 million), making it the most valuable new car ever auctioned.
Given that the production of the Chiron models, the W16 Mistral, and the Bolide all completely sold out, the 2022 Bugatti Carbone Profilée presented as the last and final chance for super-rich petrol heads to buy a new Bugatti powered by the iconic W16 quad-turbo engine directly from the Atelier in Molsheim, France.
For the uninitiated, the 2022 Bugatti Carbone Profilée is a single bespoke-engineered version of the Chiron hyper sports car and the first and only “pre-series” Chiron Profilée. The vehicle boasts an exclusively developed exterior shape for enhanced downforce and improved thermodynamic airflow management.
The legendary 8.0L W16 engine, which boasts four larger two-stage turbochargers, produces a whopping 1,600 PS and it is the fastest accelerating Chiron model, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, 200 km/h in 5.5 seconds, and it takes just 12.4 seconds for it to hit 300 km/h. It has an electronically limited top speed of 380 km/h. Absolutely mind-blowing automobile sold at a mind-blowing price.
