Spirited Away Kaonashi Musha-Musha Coin Bank

Holy mother of… it looks like fans of Japanese anime fantasy flick Spirited Away are in for a treat. Studio Ghibli is producing and more importantly, making available, a coin bank based on everyone’s favorite character (well, if you can call No Face a character, that is) Kaonashi. Officially called Spirited Away Kaonashi Musha-Musha Coin Bank, this novel, you-can’t-help-but-want-to-save adorable coin bank works pretty much like the popular Itazura Kitty Coin Bank in that it has an automated mechanism that makes depositing coins into a coin bank a little less mundane.

The key difference here is, as it appears, Kaonashi is capable of devouring more than one coin at one go as opposed to the Kitty or the dog variety which can only do a coin at a time. Anyways, when coins (apparently, with weight totalling at least 30g or about 1.05 oz.) are placed on a receptacle which, in this case, is appropriately a sake saucer, Kaonashi will raise the saucer while simultaneously opening its mouth, and thus allowing the coins to fall inside No Face. There’s even appropriate sound effect too, like an “ah” sound when the mechanism is triggered (and apparently, music too) and the requisite burp when No Face completes swallowing the coins. Sweet.

I don’t know about you, but this is definitely going into my to-buy this for 2017. Spirited Away Kaonashi Musha-Musha Coin Bank is expected to be available starting May 20, 2017, priced at 4,800 Yen a pop (or about US$42). Kinda steep for a coin bank, but hey, it is after all the Kaonashi isn’t it? And Kaonashi is uber cool and also, adorable. Spirited Away Kaonashi Musha-Musha Coin Bank will be available online, as well as official retailer for Studio Ghibli, Donguri Kyowakoku.
