Tabasco 150th Anniversary Diamond Reserve Red Sauce

Think celebration, champagne often pops up in our minds. It is perhaps with this association in mind, Louisiana-based hot sauce maker Tabasco decided that it was a good idea to present the brand’s 150th Anniversary Diamond Red Sauce in a miniature champagne bottle – complete with the requisite foil wrap and all. Yes. Really. It is kinda of cute, but you know how some real champagne does come in tiny bottles and that triggers a thought: will anybody mistakenly down a bottle of hot sauce instead of the alcoholic drink he or she was expecting?

Anywho, the champagne bottle is just an accessory to the celebratory sauce which is made from tabasco peppers, mashed and aged – some for as long as fifteen years – before white wine vinegar was introduced into the mix. The result, according to the hot sauce maker, is a pepper sauce with “exceptional complexity while maintaining the signature flavor and vibrancy for which Tabasco Sauce is celebrated.” Official words as follow:

“This celebratory, limited edition TABASCO Diamond Reserve Sauce is made from a selection of the finest tabasco peppers on Avery Island, chosen for their superior color, texture and robustness. These peppers are mashed with a small amount of salt, then aged – some for up to fifteen years – and blended with sparkling white wine vinegar.”

Now, for the good news for every hot sauce lovers. The Tabasco 150th Anniversary Diamond Reserve Red Sauce is for sale. If you are so inclined, you can acquire the 6 fl. ounces pepper sauce over at Tabasco Country Store for $34.95 a bottle.
