Technics has, in recent years, established itself as the purveyor of turntables of sort, and so, when it unveiled a new “premium wireless speaker system” last week at the Munich High End Show 2018, we are kind of pleasantly surprised and as such, we are compelled to let you in on it. Called Technics OTTAVA S SC-C50 Wireless Speaker System, this new offering from the long time audio maker has a very striking aesthetic, featuring a curvaceous aluminum enclosure and packs no less than seven drivers in rigid, glass fiber body that promised to deliver a wide soundstage.
The seven speakers, which comprises of three 6.5 cm (2.55-inch) cone-type midrange drivers, three 16 mm (0.63-inch) dome-type tweeters and a 12 cm (4.72-inch) cone-type subwoofer, is bolstered by 100 watts amplification. As you might have guessed, this ain’t no portable. It’s 37.5 cm (14.8 inches) wide stature and 7.6 kilograms (16.8 lbs) heft makes it a destined-for-home speaker.
Further highlights include heat-dissipating fins at the rear, small OLED display (found on top of the speaker), Bluetooth connectivity (obviously), dual-band WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, multi-room playback, optical input, USB-A port, Ethernet interface, 3.5 mm auxiliary input, up to 9 presets for direct access to favorite internet radio stations and whatnot without firing up the app, built-in support for Google Chromecast and Google Assistant, and finally, it also boasts compatibility with Spotify, TIDAL, DEEZER, as well as Internet Radio. No words on the pricing and availability yet.
