Staking claim as the lightest and most packable full-size packraft on the market, the Caribou is packraft maker Alpacka Raft’s latest offering. Caribou is more than just a pretty raft; it touts a new, innovative bow design which allows it to, wait for this… carry bikes. Yup. This baby here can take your trusty pedal-powered two-wheeler across the water. Sweet! Don’t have a bike? Well, fret not. You can also choose to load it up with full-sized packs, big game, or just about any heavy loads you may have in your possession when you come across a waterbody. The magical part is, it is able to keep the boat balanced, on or off the water, when you load it up with your cargo.
At four pounds and 12 ounces (that’s mere 2.15 kilograms!), this handmade in Mancos, Colorado packraft is indeed super duper lightweight. I can’t imagine there is anything out there that is as light, much less lighter, than the Caribou. Man. 4.75 lbs! Imagine that. Other highlights include single valve for inflation and deflation, full-size standard seat, 210d high count nylon lightweight polyurethane coated tubes, 840d nylon floor, handle on bow, 4 bow strap plates, 2 stern grab loops, and finally, there’s a floor loop (for attaching the seat).
Each Caribou comes with an inflation bag (so there’s no need for huff and puff), seat stuff sack, plus a repair kit for, you know, the unforeseen emergencies. The Caribou Inflatable Packraft by Alpacka Raft is available as we speak via select international retailers, as well as on Alpacka Raft website, and it is offered in a choice of Persimmon and Mallard Green colorways. Prices start at $795. Continue reading to take a few more look at this beautiful packraft, courtesy of Alpacka Raft.
