The Ridge AU, or The Ridge Wallet, as some of you may know it, is also in a celebratory mood. The EDC maker from Down Under is ushering in the Chinese New Year with a striking capsule release. It has given its Ridge Wallet, specifically the 6061-T6 aluminum model, and the Ridge Keycase, also in 6061-T6 aluminum, the Year of the Horse—or more correctly, the year of the Fire Horse—treatment.
The CNY Ridge Wallet is presented in a red and gold colorway, colors associated with prosperity in Chinese culture. The main cover is populated by gold-colored securing hardware and an oil-filled engraving of a Fire Horse enclosed within a Chinese key pattern border, all rendered in gold. The finishing touch on this face is an engraved RIDGE branding, also in gold. On the flip side, the cash strap appears in red against a gold border. At the center is an engraved Chinese character 峰 (fēng) in gold, which literally means “peak.” You will also find the Chinese key pattern border in gold on this side.
Beyond that, this is very much the Ridge Wallet you may already know. That means a lighter, smarter design. It is 10 percent lighter and boasts oil-filled logos, a new plated cash strap, capacity for 1 to 12 cards, expandability without stretching, RFID blocking, scratch resistance, a 6061-T6 aluminum construction, and swappable elastic and screws for longevity.
The Year of the Fire Horse Ridge Case, on the other hand, celebrates without the horse. The horse exists only in name here, and perhaps in spirit. This is the Ridge Keycase in a red and gold colorway. Its red body is accented with gold hardware, including the key ring and screws. The front features clouds, hand fans, sparkles, and Chinese patterns within a Chinese key pattern border. On the flip side is a manganese spring steel clip engraved with the Chinese character for “peak” in gold. Made from 6061-T6 aluminum, it features a patent-pending tension plate system and secures 2 to 6 keys.
The Ridge Wallet in Year of the Fire Horse / Aluminum sells for AU$199, while the Ridge Keycase in Year of the Fire Horse / Aluminum retails for AU$129. There is also a bundle that includes both for AU$225. If you also need a writing instrument, the bundle can be had with a bolt-action pen for AU$310.
