Transformers MPG Shattered Glass Optimus Prime and Jetfire

With the official introduction of the MPG line, Takara Tomy wasted no time releasing new MPG figures, starting with two repainted Trainbots and a TT-exclusive Raiden set. The MPG-09 Super Ginrai, MPG-10 Lift Ticket, and MPG-11 DK-2 Guard soon followed the Trainbots. The latter two are pretty much the repaint and maybe a slight retool of Masterpiece Hoist and Masterpiece Ironhide/Ratchet. Well, the repaint does not stop there.

Recently, Takara Tomy revealed the Shattered Glass versions of Optimus Prime and Jetfire. The former is essentially a repaint of the MP-44S which in turn is a redeco of 2021’s MP-44. The latter is a recolored of the MP-57 from 2022. Normally, I would sneer at the idea but damn, how can anyone resist a purple Optimus Prime and a purple and black Jetfire? I know I can’t but luckily for me, my wallet does not agree with me.

Like the figure it is based on, the Takara Tomy MPG-12 Shattered Glass Optimus Prime [JP] converts between robot mode and truck mode, and is fully jointed and highly articulated, allowing for myriad action poses. It is supplied with an ion cannon, an Energon axe, a beam effect, a Matrix of Leadership, and an interchangeable battle-damaged head.

As before, it is presented in its original Japanese packaging complete with Japanese-language instructions and an exclusive character card for Shattered Glass Optimus Prime—also in Japanese language.

Meanwhile, the Takara Tomy Transformers MPG-13 Shattered Glass Jetfire [JP] is, well, a replica of the MP-57 but in a beautiful black and purple colorway. It converts between robot mode and jet mode, but it does not come with tiny figures like the original color figure. It does however come with alternate emblems: the original purple (evil) Autobot emblem piece and the red (good) Decepticon emblem piece.

Evil Jetfire is supplied with a photon missile launcher, two interchangeable face plates (a smiling and a surprised look), a blank replacement chest panel, plus two effect parts. As with the original figure, Jetfire is super toon-accurate and is fully jointed and highly articulated, thus affording a variety of action poses.

Likewise, it is presented in its original Japanese packaging with Japanese-language instructions and a Japanese-language collector’s character card featuring the evil Jetfire.

Both the Takara Tomy MPG-12 Shattered Glass Optimus Prime and Takara Tomy MPG-13 Shattered Glass Jetfire are available for pre-orders in Japan for 33,000 yen [JP] and 39,600 yen [JP], respectively, with delivery in late March 2024.

Meanwhile, toy retailers big and small around the world have already begun taking pre-orders too. Pre-orders are also happening at Hasbropulse.com with the MPG-12 Shattered Glass Optimus Prime going for US$199.99 and the MPG-13 Shattered Glass Jetfire at US$249.99. Delivery to the U.S. customers should start around June 29, 2025.
