Who’s excited for Takara Tomy’s upcoming “real mecha” toyline, Transformers Overgear? I know many collectors are. The Armored Core-vibe series has more exciting news: Optimus Prime is set to join Iron Hide and Blackout in Spring 2027, with reservations opening in early June 2026.
Beyond that, we only have three images to go with. From the product images, we can conclude that the figure is rocking the familiar blue Optimus Prime head sculpt, but the rest is not very Optimus Prime. This Autobot leader looks like a squad leader of a special force who is ready to kill.
OG-03 transforms into an 8-wheeled military truck in a desert and blue colorway. The truck bed has a weapon turret formed by combining a missile pod, Prime’s axe, and his assault weapon, which looks like it has Picatinny rails on it. The hood has a set of weathered white flame graphics, and the cab is equipped with smoke grenade launchers, though it is not clear if it is just one set of three or two sets.
OG-03 Optimus Prime’s bot mode is very muscular-looking, with very pronounced shoulder pads. In bot mode, it has some orange accents in addition to the desert and blue colorway. Very, very cool. I mean, how are orange biceps not cool, right?
Takara Tomy recently previewed [JP] the new Overgear member at the Takara Tomy T-SPARK booth at the 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show (May 13 to 17, 2026), in Shizuoka City, the plastic model capital of the world. May 13 and 14 are trade days, btw, while May 15 is reserved for students. Only May 16 and 17 are open to the public. Admission is free.
