According to the Bayverse’s lore, the Transformers have been on Earth since the dinosaur age. That means they have experienced history, and indeed they do. One of the many pre-Bayverse IDW comics was set in the 1900s during the Industrial Revolution, and now, Hasbro has turned ink into plastic with the introduction of the Transformers Timelines Comic Edition Optimus Prime and Starscream inspired by the Transformers: Hearts of Steel comic miniseries.

In this steampunk fever dream, Optimus Prime trades his sleek semi-truck look for a steam engine vibe, chugging along with a 19-step transformation that would make even the most seasoned model train enthusiast break a sweat. Meanwhile, Starscream ditches his jet mode for a “steam flying machine,” proving that even Decepticons can embrace vintage aesthetics.
The fact that Starscream remains a flying thing proves that a leopard never changes its spots, well, at least in his alt mode. Because Screamer can be a kind-hearted Cybertronian soul as seen in Transformers: Armada. Speaking of which, can we have a moment of silence for Starscream in Thundercracker colors for his sacrifice?
Anyways, moving on… these figures come with accessories like an ion blaster smokestack and train roof shield, ensuring you’re well-equipped for any impromptu 19th-century robot battles. And at $59.99 for the pair, they’re a steal—assuming you’ve got a time machine to take you back to when that was a lot of money.
So, if you’ve ever dreamed of reliving the Industrial Revolution with giant transforming robots (and who hasn’t?), now’s your chance. Just remember to pre-order before they sell out and become as hard to find as a Decepticon at a peace rally.
If you are down, you may pick up the Transformers Timelines Comic Edition Optimus Prime and Starscream from Hasbropulse.com as a pre-order for US$59.99. Shipping is expected to start around July 01, 2025.
