Here’s another rugged smartphone for who those who have butter fingers. What you see here is the Ulefone Armor 7 from rugged smartphone specialist, Ulefone. It is designed to survive in most compromising scenarios – thanks to its IP68/IP69K rated construction and MIL-STD-810G “certification”.
It is worthy to note that, based on our limited knowledge, there MIL-STD-810G certification isn’t a thing. MIL-STD-810G compliant, however, is. Anyways, that’s not the point. The point is, this is one tough little guy.
It is marketed as the “world’s first Helio P90 rugged smartphone with 48 Mp triple camera.” The length that manufacturers will go to claim the title of “world’s first” is beyond us. Speaking of imaging, the Armor 7 gets a tri-camera main shooter (48 MP main + 16 MP “night photography” camera + 8 MP telephoto) with support for underwater photography and a 16 MP selfie camera. Interestingly, Ulefone chose to slap the device with a quad LED flash. Not a bad thing though.
Key spec-sheet details include a 6.3-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) water drop IPS LCD display, IMG PowerVR GM9446 up to 970 MHz GPU, 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage, 4 navigation system (GPS, GLONASS, Beidou and Galileo), side located physical fingerprint sensor, face unlock support, a customizable physical button, NFC with Google Pay support, USB-C port.
Battery is a 5,500 mAh item with 15W wired charging and 10W wireless charging.
Like almost all rugged smartphone, it does not create the illusion of thinness. It’s 8.1 mm thick with almost no camera bump. Aesthetically, it’s pretty for a rugged device.
Ulefone Armor 7 can be had, as we speak, 100 dollars less over its retail price at $499.99. We do not know when the discount will last, so if you want one, you ought to act on it fast.
BUT… Ulefone just announced a new Armor X7. An undoubtedly lower range device, but just as tough. It is lauded as “the most price competitive 4G rugged phone in the market.” We do not know the pricing though.
However, the X7 is really the basic of basics with low range specs like 2 GB RAM and almost unheard in today’s market 16 GB storage. OK. You know what. Perhaps, you will want the Ulefone Armor 7. Sorry for sidetracking for nothing.
