The anticipation for the “show down” between the kaiju Godzilla and cult mecha robots from Neon Genesis Evangelion is finally over. The new temporary attraction as part of Cool Japan 5th Anniversary celebration opens its doors from now through to August 25, 2019 at Universal Studios Japan (USJ). We weren’t sure of what was the attraction was about when we first heard of it last October, but it is now confirmed that Shin Godzilla vs Evangelion is a 4D attraction.
With Shin Godzilla vs Evangelion 4D attraction, you will be thrown into the middle of a war between two of Japan’s biggest pop culture properties. You probably already know how it is going to play out. Godzilla wanders into the city (Osaka-III) where NERV underground base is located and EVA units are deployed to get rid of the uninvited guest like they have always done when random Angel “dropped by” Tokyo-3. However, we are not sure if riders will be thrown in the middle of the fight or be part of one of the three Evangelion units like was with the Transformers 4D ride.
“While visiting Evangelion’s stronghold city “Osaka-Ⅲ” for an observational tour, an unexpected visitor attacks. It’s none other than Godzilla, the King of Destruction. Witness the battle between two unstoppable forces right here in Osaka!”
Anywho, it will be interesting to see if there will be a movie or anime crossover between the two. Speaking of crossover… USJ also jumped on this opportunity to sell visitors some really cool Shin Godzilla x Evangelion merchandises too. The merchandises include action figures of Shin Godzilla and King Ghidorah, tote bag, mug, plush wearable Godzilla head, snack, and a very intriguing mecha Godzilla popcorn tub in EVA Unit-01 colors.
Not sure of these goodies are limited to when the attraction is on. If yes, that is going to make them extra valuable as collectibles. Well, except for the snack thingy; you have consume them eventually. Keep going to catch the USJ Godzilla Vs. Evangelion 4D Attraction trailer.
