Is it a sedan? A fastback? An SUV? Volvo’s ES90 is whatever it wants to be, and it refuses to be labeled. Instead, it takes the best of all three and merges them into one ultra-practical, ultra-comfortable EV with the aerodynamics of a sports car and the cargo space of a family hauler.

Underneath the sleek Scandinavian design, the ES90 is built on Volvo’s SPA2 platform and powered by an 800V system that allows for faster charging and a longer range—up to 700 km (435 miles) (WLTP). Need a quick top-up? It can add 300 km in just 10 minutes at a 350 kW fast charger. That’s enough time to grab a coffee, argue with the self-checkout, and get back on the road.
Inside, Volvo has prioritized comfort, with a long 3.1m wheelbase offering generous legroom. There’s a panoramic roof with UV protection, an air purifier that filters out allergens, and whisper-quiet cabin insulation. And if silence isn’t your thing, the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system delivers Abbey Road Studio-level audio through 25 speakers, including some in the headrests.
Other highlights include Google built-in, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 3D parking camera, and a four-zone climate system. Safety remains a Volvo hallmark, with lidar, cameras, and radars providing an extra set of digital eyes. It even has an occupant-sensing system that detects movement as subtle as a baby’s breath.
With order books open in select markets, the ES90 joins Volvo’s growing electric lineup, proving that practicality and style don’t have to be mutually exclusive. And no, it has not been announced yet. However, it is available to order in the U.K. with a starting price of £69,650 (roughly 90K USD).
