WileyFox Swift and Storm Smartphone

Have you heard of WileyFox? Nope? Us either and we won’t blame ourselves for not knowing this London-based startup cos’ they are kind of new to smartphone market that aims to provide “savvy open market” with “highly customizable, highly spec’d” handsets with market disruptive prices. Like OnePlus, WileyFox’s products will only be available online through the company’s website, as well as e-tailers such as Amazon, eBay, JD, Souq, Expansys and Clove. The first two devices, namely, Swift and Storm, will be available starting September and October, respectively.

And staying true to its promise, the Swift is expected to retail at a modest £129 (€179, or about US$202) and the Storm, at £199 (€279, or around US$312). One of the highlight of the duo is Cyanogen-flavored Android OS, which promised customizability and works in conjunction with Qualcomm’s SecureMSM technology to provide users with “exceptional data security settings.”

Spec-wise, the Storm gets a 5.5-inch FHD touch display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset with octacore processor. Storm has a full 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Other essentials found on Storm includes 4G LTE radios, dual SIM support, a flash-equipped 20MP main camera, a 8MP front-facing camera, wireless b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a non-removable 2,500 mAh battery and support for lossless and other high-quality audio files playback, including DTS and AC3.

The Swift, on the other hand, is outfitted with a 5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass for protection with muscle provided by an octacore processor on Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chip. RAM comes in at 2GB and onboard storage is 16GB, expandable up to 32GB through the use of microSD card. On the imaging department, Swift gets a 13MP dual LED flash camera, along with a 5MP front-facing item. 4G LTE and dual SIM also comes standard on the Swift, as are wireless n and Bluetooth 4.0 technology. Despite being smaller, Swift also gets the same 2,500 mAh battery pack, but the difference being, it is removable.

Both devices is expected to ship with Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Google’s Android 5.1 Lollipop.
