Wargaming, the Belarusian video game company most notable for its “World of” series like World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships, has teamed up with American entertainment company Lionsgate to promote the movie Midway premiering this weekend.

As part of the promotion, Wargaming has created a special Midway battle missions in the World of Warships video game for players to experience the historic, epic battle played out in Pacific Theater in 1942.

World of Warships New Midway Mission

Completing certain tasks within the game will let players to try out IJN Kaga and IJN Saipan. The special battle missions will not last forever, though. They will run from now through to December 5, 2019.

Over 30 historical ships that took part in Midway operations, including the aforementioned IJN Kaga and IJN Saipan, are recreated within World of Warships. IJN Kaga, btw, was one of the two WWII Japanese aircraft carriers that was sunk during the Battle of Midway and its wreckage, along with that of the other carrier, IJN Aka, was only discovered recently.

World of Warships New Midway Mission

For you warships buffs out there, the legendary seafaring monsters, Bismarck, is part of the WWII recreated for this special mission. All ships featured in the game are painstakingly developed based on historical documents and blueprints acquired from archives and naval museums.

Midway, stars Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Etsushi Toyokawa, Tadanobu Asano, Luke Kleintank, Jun Kunimura, Darren Criss, Keean Johnson, Alexander Ludwig, with Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson. The movie opens in theaters across the U.S. this weekend, November 8, 2019.
