Xiaomi has one-upped Huawei. It did not have just one camera with Leica cameras; it has three. In addition to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, we talked about in our last article, two other devices, namely, 12S and 12S Pro, are also blessed with Leica cameras.

Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro Smartphones

Both the Xiaomi 12S [CH] and 12S Pro [CH] is rocking large 1/1.28-inch 50 MP sensor (IMX707) and while the sensor is essentially the same as the sensor found on the 12 and 12 Pro, the cameras were “co-engineered with Leica”. This means, a Summicron lens on each device, as it was on the Ultra.

What the cameras have to offer are basically the same as on the Ultra. You know 10-bit RAW image capture and the good stuff, and so we shall not repeat ourselves again.

Both cameras tout the same main camera, which is a 50 MP Sony IMX707 sensor paired with a wide-angle 7p element lens, with an f1.9 aperture and equivalent to 24 mm focal length.

While the 12S has a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle and a 5 MP macro camera, the 12S Pro boasts a 50 MP portrait and a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Both devices are capable of up to 8K 24 fps videoing and shared the same 32 MP front-facing camera.

Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro Smartphones

The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro were announced for the China market where they are available to order with a starting price of 3,999 RMB and 4,699 RMB (around US$598 and US$702), respectively. There is a fourth 12S model, the 12S Dimensity Edition going for 3,999 RMB and up. Honestly, it makes zero sense to me since it is the same price as the 8+128 GB 12S model which has the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Leica cameras.
