Never mind if 3D is still a thing today because it may become a thing again if we can experience it (3D) without 3D glasses. And glasses-free 3D is what the new ZTE Voyage 3D has to offer. Glasses-free 3D isn’t new, though. The tech has been previously explored on ASUS Proart Studiobook 16 3D OLED and is certainly not new to smartphones either. It has been explored on phones as far back as 2011 and earlier.
But the ZTE Voyage 3D [CH] is staking the claim as the “world’s first AI 3D glass-free 3D smartphone”. Now, that’s a bit of a stretch. Throwing in AI does not make it the first. But that does not take away the cool factor of this novelty tech. What is impressive with the new ZTE Voyage 3D is that it can turn any content into 3D at the touch of a button.
In-house developed Neovision 3D Anytime technology lets you realize 3D viewing on the fly, allowing you to seamlessly transit from 2D images into 3D images and vice versa. The 3D function supports video, gaming, popular video apps, et cetera.
Leveraging AI eye-tracking technology, the device offers a 60° wide view angle, accurate tracking of the user’s eye moment, and an algorithm to achieve the best 3D image possible. Using AI, the system remodels 2D images into 3D models to turn any 2D content into immersive 3D content which is then output to a 6.58” high-resolution 3D glass-free IPS 3D display.
The display offers an FHD+ resolution (2,408 x 1,080 pixels), 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling, plus Blue light eye protection.
The new Voyage 3D is powered by a UNISOC T7660 chip featuring an octacore, 6 nm 5G dual-mode chip (SA/NSA), supporting up to 2.2 GHz main frequency. It has one configuration and that is 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM.
AI is not limited to creating 3D images; there is also AI smart voice assistant, AI smart translation, and AI magic removal for photos.
Imaging, the device boasts a 50 MP AI imaging featuring a 50 MP AF camera and a 5 MP camera. Meanwhile, the front has a teardrop cut for a 5 MP camera.
Other spec sheet details include USB 2.0, wireless 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, GPSS/A-GPS/Beidou/Galileo, Bluetooth 5.0, fingerprint sensor, face recognition, the usual suspect of sensors (Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, Ambient light sensor), and a 4,500 mAh battery with PD 3.0 supporting up to 33 W fast charging.
The ZTE Voyage 3D glasses-free 3D smartphone was revealed at the MWC 2024 Shanghai [CH]. It will sell for a modest 1,499 yuan (about US$206) when it becomes available in China.
