honestly, we don’t know what qualifies as a coupe anymore. take for example the freshly announced 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Beemer refers to it as a coupe, albeit with ‘Gran’ preceding ‘Coupe’ which we shall take it (Gran) as ‘premium’ model, but it has four doors like any sedan does. so what gives? well, perhaps it is the sleek roofline that extends from the steeply raked windshield, flowing to a coupe-like trunk which makes it worthy of a coupe? we really don’t know. i am sure there’s a bunch of marketing-induced rationalizing for this ‘terming’, but a sleek ride is still a sleek ride, coupe or not and that’s what the 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is all about. of course, being four-door form it does have obvious benefit such as the ability to fit 4+1 with ease.
the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be offered in a series of engine, including four and six cylinder petrol engines, along with two four-cylinder diesel engines. perching at the top of the food chain is the 435i which has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six engine under the hood, pumping out 306 horsepower (225 kW) and giving up 300 lb-ft of torque. mated to a eight-speed sport Steptronic automatic gearbox, the top ranging 300-horse 435i makes the 0-60 sprint in just 4.9 seconds. other models in the lineup include the 240 hp 428i, the 420i that offers 245 and 184 hp engines, as well as two diesel variants, the 184 hp 420d and 143 hp 418d. the 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will be making its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, while US debut is slated to be at the New York International Auto Show in April 2014.
no word when it will be rolling into your local showrooms, but we do have some information on the pricing. prices in the US will start at $41,225 (including destination and handling) for the 428i ($43,225 and up with xDrive) and $46,725 and up for the 435i. for now, it looks like only the 428i and 435i Gran Coupe will be making to the US shores, while the full range will be hitting most of the European markets, including the UK. btw, the 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will hit the UK dealers on June 21, 2014, priced from £29,420 (about US$48,400). catch a few more look in the gallery below.
