In modern times, the yacht is normally understood as motor-powered watercraft used for pleasure. It is usually without sails and has amenities for living on the high seas. Meanwhile, a sailboat is a watercraft propelled mainly by sails. There are yachts with sails, partially powered sailboats and then there is this: Sunbeam 32.1 Sailing Yacht.
Sunbeam 32.1 Sailing Yacht is not a powered sailboat and it is not quite a yacht with sails. It is a, well, sailing yacht. A sailboat is also a yacht. I have spent the good part of the last hour searching for the definitions for yacht and sailboat.
While there isn’t a definition the boating industry can agree on, I am confident that a sailboat wouldn’t have a front deck flat and big enough for relaxing and sunbathing, let alone has benches and extendable table, and a diving platform at the stern – all of which the Sunbeam 32.1 Sailing Yacht has.
Moreover, this biggest vessel from Sunbeam’s below deck is voluminous enough to be able to include amenities like a dining area and kitchenette – as you find in a typical modern yacht.
On the flip side, it has a silhouette of a sailboat and is complete with mast, mainsail, headsail, boom, sailing cleats and clutches, keel, and all the good stuff. Interestingly, it has a mast that appears to pass through into the lower deck where it doubles as the table’s leg.
Regardless of what you think the Sunbeam 32.1 is, you have to admit it is one beautiful ship that has an awesome futuristic look. How else do you think it managed to snag the reddot 2022 best of the best award? You may learn more about the Sunbeam 32.1 Sailing Yacht HERE.
