2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive Electric Vehicle

We already knew that an all-electric BMW i7 xDrive60 will be available when BMW revealed the 2023 BMW 7 Series last year but what we did not know is there is also a M model of the electric variant. And so here it is, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, the most powerful all-electric BMW model.

BMW M has recently introduced an all-electric performance model to spearhead the new BMW 7 Series range. The BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most powerful model with an all-electric drive system in the entire BMW lineup and the fastest purely electric-powered BMW model yet, capable of making the century sprint (0-100 km/h; 62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds.

It is the third performance all-electric vehicle following BMW i4 M50 and the BMW iX M60. It has an all-wheel-drive setup, powered by an electric motor at the front and rear axles. All told the electric motors produce 485 kW or about 660 horsepower and a system torque of 1,105 Nm (748 lb-ft) in Sport mode and as much as 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) when M Launch Control or the M Sport Boost function is activated. Meanwhile, top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Packed in the vehicle’s underbody is a battery system with 101.7 kWh of usable energy, providing the i7 M70 xDrive a range of 488-560 kilometers (303-348 miles, WLTP cycle). This battery system supports AC charging at up to 22 kW as standard as well as DC power at up to 196 kW, which would allow for a 170 km (106 miles) range with just 10 minutes of charging.

If the range is an anxiety for you, you’d be glad to know that with the 2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive, BMW also introduced a new drive system setting called MAX RANGE that will enable extra range at the push of a button. In this mode, drive power and top speed (in this instant, limited to 90 km/h or 56 mph) are carefully restricted and comfort functions are pared down to allow the range to be boasted by 15-25%. MAX Range setting will be available across all-electric models in the new BMW 7 Series range.
