The unholy matrimony between Evangelion and Godzilla wasn’t the alone. It was introduced with Eva-Gojira splice, the X-Plus Toho 30cm series Evangelion Unit-02 Beast “G” Mode. As with the first, the “G” here denotes “Godzilla”. That was 6-7 years ago. Fast forward to 2023, the Evangelion Unit-02 Beast “G” Mode is being re-released with a little update.
For the uninitiated, the X-Plus Toho 30cm series Evangelion Unit-02 Beast “G” Mode is a result of an unprecedented collaboration, Godzilla vs. Evangelion. The concept emerged from a simple yet daring question: “What if we infused G Cells into an Evangelion?” Thus, this iteration of Evangelion Unit-02 emerged, following the path of our “Evangelion Unit-01 ‘G’ Awakening Form” and presenting an entirely new appearance.
This formidable figure amalgamates Godzilla and the second form of Unit-02’s Beast Mode seen in the 2009 movie Evangelion 2.0: You Can Advance, stretching impressively to a length of 38 cm (15 inches). It incorporates Godzilla-like elements—rock-like skin, imposing dorsal plates, and a lengthy tail—merged with Unit-02’s beastly form after the removal of its limiter. It’s posed in an intimidating stance, ready to confront adversaries with bone-chilling intimidation.
It is pretty much the figure you see 6-7 years ago but with the “Renewal Version”, it gets a new paint job with additional intricate details inspired by combat scenes from the movie while faithfully reproducing Unit-02’s familiar red and white color scheme. This figure, a unique creation from this collaborative project, is a must-have for collectors seeking its original form and overwhelming presence!
