Synaginex Transformers/Macross 7 Basara Prime

Can’t get enough of Optimus Prime in other guises? Well, you’re in luck—especially if you’re into crossovers with pop culture icons from the same era. Joining the Takara Tomy Synaginex SHIELD-D-PRIME is yet another Transformers crossover based on Optimus Prime: the Synaginex Transformers/Macross 7 Basara Prime.

That’s right, my fellow ’80s anime fans—the TF universe has collided with the Macross universe. Part of Takara Tomy’s collector-focused T-Spark line, the Synaginex Transformers/Macross 7 Basara Prime combines Optimus Prime with Nekki Basara’s VF-19 Fire Valkyrie from Macross 7 lore.

This transforming figure exists for a commemorative reason: it marks both the 30th anniversary of Macross 7 and the 40th anniversary of Transformers. You can’t get more meaningful than that, especially if you’re a fan of both franchises.

Not going to lie: Basara Prime isn’t the prettiest. The look isn’t for everyone. But the real draw, at least to me, is that it’s a quad-changer. That’s right. It has four modes. It can transform between a fighter jet, a GERWALK, a robot, and a vehicle.

And like good ol’ Optimus Prime, it’s got a trailer too. Though, thanks to the fiery colorway and the mobile home-style trailer, it kind of looks more like a Rodimus Prime crossover with Macross 7. Just saying…

The fighter mode can also turn into a road-going jet—that is, the vehicle mode—which kind of makes this Valkyrie a, ermm, flying car? Anyhoo, the vehicle mode can be attached to the trailer. I know, it’s totally weird, but it can do that for reasons beyond our understanding.

In bot mode, it’s a well, Optimus Prime-inspired bot that, in addition to the usual blaster, wields a guitar that blends elements from Nekki Basara’s Fire Valkyrie guitar and the Matrix of Leadership.

The trailer opens up to reveal a mini stage—aka “Live Stage Mode”—complete with a futuristic mic and stand instead of a cannon, plus stage speakers. This Optimus Prime wants to end wars with music.

In between, Basara Prime can also moonlight as a Gerwalker.

The figure includes three head sculpts: a regular mask-off version, a mask-off “passionate singing” version, and a mask-on version.

The Synaginex Transformers/Macross 7 Basara Prime is available for pre-order in Japan for 22,000 yen [JP] (~US$148), with delivery expected to start sometime in March 2026. Meanwhile, it’s also available for pre-order in the US at HasbroPulse.com and retailers like Big Bad Toy Store for US$199.99.
