Batman started out as a masked vigilante fighting crime. Over the years, though, his stories grew into something of an art form, exploring Bruce Wayne’s troubled mind and the psychological struggles and complexities of his villains. Now, that artistic side has taken a rather literal turn with the LEGO DC The Joker Wall Art Comic Cover (67012).

Based on the cover of Detective Comics #880 from 2011, this 1,849-piece set recreates the Joker’s deeply unsettling face. Not exactly the calming artwork you might pick for a bedroom, but nobody said your decorating choices had to encourage restful sleep.
What makes the image particularly striking is how the Joker’s head appears to break apart into a swarm of bats. The scattered shapes form his hair while dissolving the outline of his skull. It’s a fittingly disturbing way to illustrate what might be going on inside that mind.
LEGO adds another dimension to that imagery, literally. This isn’t a flat mosaic: the eyes and other facial features protrude from the surface, giving that unhinged expression a 3D effect. Look deeper into the build, and you will find Batarangs, swords, flowers, and “Ha, ha, ha, ha” worked into the design. There’s quite a bit going on inside that head, which seems appropriate.

What makes this “piece” so impressive, IMHO, is that it goes above and beyond the original cover art: the bats, or whatever objects those are, extend beyond the frame of the wall art. I believe this is a first for LEGO Art. Not going to lie. I have a thing for the Joker, and this 3D brick-built rendition of the iconic comic cover art that extends beyond the frame absolutely had me at hello.
Designed for adults ages 18 and up, the completed artwork measures over 51 cm (20 inches) high, 38 cm (15 inches) wide, and 5 cm (2 inches) deep. You can hang it on a wall or stand it on a shelf, depending on where you would prefer to have the Joker staring at you.
The LEGO DC The Joker Wall Art Comic Cover (67012) launches on January 1, 2027, for US$169.99.
