Yangwang ALTIOR Ultra-Luxury Executive Flagship Sedan
BYD is taking aim at Rolls-Royce and Maybach with the Yangwang ALTIOR, an extravagant electric flagship inspired by ancient Chinese ceremonial vessels. Beyond its 24K gold emblem and gemstone-inspired grille, the four-seat sedan boasts 39 speakers, rear-hinged coach doors, four independent motors, and an electric range exceeding 1,000 km under CLTC testing.

We already know that the jumping U9 and swimming U8 SUV from BYD Motors’ premium marque, Yangwang, aren’t cheap. But those are probably just “mid-range” prices when compared to Yangwang’s latest ultra-luxury executive flagship sedan, the Dingyao (ALTIOR). Officially launched in Abu Dhabi in a presentation that was as grand as the venue, the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental.

Folks, meet the Yangwang ALTIOR, a fully electric luxury sedan that has its sights set on the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and Bentley Flying Spur. And BYD isn’t holding back on the extravagance. Then again, are you even surprised?

First, some numbers. This imposing four-door measures 5,600 mm (220.5 inches) long, 2,030 mm (79.9 inches) wide, and 1,590 mm (62.6 inches) tall, with a generous 3,500 mm (137.8 inches) wheelbase. That’s a lot of real estate for just four occupants.

But the ALTIOR isn’t merely about size. Its design philosophy, called Da Qi Ding Cheng (大器鼎成), draws inspiration from the ding, an ancient Chinese bronze ceremonial vessel symbolizing authority, stability, and achievement. The name Dingyao combines this symbolism with brilliance, while ALTIOR comes from Latin, meaning “higher.”

The influence is particularly evident in the upright front fascia, distinctive lighting, and imposing proportions. Instead of borrowing Western luxury symbolism wholesale, Yangwang has incorporated Chinese cultural elements into a silhouette that wouldn’t look entirely out of place in a Rolls-Royce showroom.

Speaking of extravagance, the imposing grille features 137 gemstone-cut decorative elements, accompanied by diamond-cut headlights and an oracle-bone-script-inspired Yangwang emblem crafted from 24K gold. Even the welcoming lights put on a show, with 12 illuminated elements activating in sequence. It is a car that you probably wish came with a 24-hour security detail.

And then there are the rear-hinged coach doors. The front doors open up to 80°, while the rear doors swing open to 90°, allowing passengers to enter the cabin with the dignity expected of someone who probably doesn’t worry about parking charges.

Inside, Yangwang has gone all out with a symmetrical cabin inspired by traditional Chinese architecture. The four-seat arrangement includes two individual rear executive seats, a central control console, semi-aniline leather, natural wood, and genuine metal switches.

The rear seats feature zero-gravity reclining and mechanical massage functions, while a 21.4-inch motorized overhead screen, 5.5-liter refrigerator, and 39-speaker Dynaudio Platinum Evidence audio system take care of entertainment and refreshments. Yes, 39 speakers.

There’s also a special Shanhe Dingyun limited edition featuring brown-and-gold exterior colors, Suzhou embroidery, hand-carved Hetian jade accents, and other bespoke details. This is where luxury meets traditional Chinese craftsmanship.

Beneath all that opulence is some serious engineering. The ALTIOR [CH] uses Yangwang’s e⁴ four-motor independent drive system, capable of precisely controlling torque at each wheel. It supports some familiar Yangwang party tricks, including turning on the spot, maintaining stability after a high-speed tire blowout, and emergency flotation.

The next-generation DiSus active body control system uses road-preview technology to adjust the suspension in real time, minimizing bumps and body roll. The concept isn’t new, though. We saw something similar on the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupe over a decade ago, courtesy of its MAGIC BODY CONTROL system.

Power comes from BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, delivering a claimed electric range exceeding 1,000 km (621 miles) under the CLTC cycle. Flash charging is supported, although detailed charging specifications have yet to be announced.

The Yangwang ALTIOR debuted globally on November 7, 2026. It will be offered in Executive and Bespoke versions, with the Shanhe Dingyun limited edition already accepting reservations. Official pricing remains unannounced, although reports suggest the limited edition could cost around US$280,000 (CNY 2 million), with a reservation deposit of approximately US$42,000 (CNY 300,000).
