If you are a seriously hardcore PC gamer, chances are you have experienced a phenomena known as screen tearing when the monitor and graphics card becomes out-of-sync. Well, apparently, screen tearing will be a problem of the past if you have the LG 34UM67 21:9 UltraWide Gaming Monitor. Billed as the world’s first 21:9 UltraWide Gaming Monitor with AMD Freesync (LG really goes into specifics here, don’t they?), the 34UM67 promised to eliminate the aforementioned problems, while guaranteeing “the smoothest and most seamless gaming experience, generating fluid motion without any loss of frame rate” (LG’s words, not ours, btw).
This 16:9 gaming-orientated monitor boasts two unique features that should give you the edge when gaming. The first is known as Black Stabilizer that brightens dark scenes, helping to define the deep black areas where objects and enemies could be lurking. The second is Dynamic Action Sync mode which is said to reduce input lag and thereby making real-time gameplay more immersive (and a little less frustrating). This is by no means an average size monitor; it measures a massive 34 inches diagonally across (damn. It is larger than my TV!) and touts a pretty impressive QHD 3,440 x 1,440 resolution. Well, if gaming ain’t your cuppa, fret not. The 34UM67 has a couple of siblings geared towards creative professionals, as well as those in the financial sector.
And then there is the 34UC97, also a 34-inch 21:9 QHD display that will play nice with graphic designers and photographers, offering a huge screen real estate, coupled with the goodness of IPS display, a 178-degree viewing angle, a sRGB color space certified by TÜV Rheinland and Intertek and validated by UL. And then there is the 34UC87M, a 21:9 Curved UltraWide Multi-Display monitor that provides the flexibility of multiple-display setup and is suitable for stock traders and other financial professionals. LG will be showing off these monitors at the upcoming CES in Vegas, along with a Digital Cinema 4K Monitor that boasts more pixels over the ‘normal’ UHD display (4,096 x 2,160 versus 3,840 x 2,160) and touting over 99.5 percent Adobe Color Space.
