Here’s something for the sneaker collectors. What you see here is the Adidas Superstar 35th Anniversary #35 “Top Secret” in US size 11.5. Here’s a little back story. In 2005, adidas celebrated 35 years of adidas Superstar – one of its iconic kicks – by releasing 34 different versions of the shoe.
Each design would be a nod of appreciation to people, places, and movements that helped make what the shoe it is today (or rather in 2005). The 35th edition of the collection was only given away to 35 lucky Adidas fans around the world, and this set here was one of them. And it wasn’t just any old lucky draw:
“To even qualify for the drawing, Adidas held a scavenger hunt in 5 cities (Berlin, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong) and using clues from their website you had to locate a site that corresponded with the history of Adidas or the history of one of their 35th collaborators. Then, you had to take that picture to the local Adidas originals store (located on Melrose for the LA peeps) and show it to them and provide them with the correct answer. If you gave them the right answer, they would then give you a “Golden Ticket” which you then had to use to register with online at the Adidas site. Adidas then randomly selected 35 people from each of the 5 cities to attend an “top secret” launch event at their store. The individuals that were luckily chosen to attend the event would have the chance of winning 1 of the 7 pairs that Adidas was giving away. 7 white leather briefcases with golden locks stacked up on a platform, use the last 3 digits of the number on the “Golden Ticket” as the combination for the briefcase locks. If the last 3 numbers was the same as the briefcase combo, the locks would pop open and the ultra-limited edition #35’s were yours.”
How it was obtained was enough reason why this set here is an absolute rarity and a must-have for fans who have the money but didn’t have the luck to secure a pair. The entire shoe is crafted out of premium leather that is accented with gold detailing.
The shoe is in brand-new condition and is size 11.5 (US). I think the draw isn’t just the pair of kicks; it is the entire package which includes the original leather briefcase, wooden shoe trees, golden ticket, shoe horn, brushes, and the leather polish.
The Adidas Superstar 35th Anniversary #35 “Top Secret” is currently on the block on Heritage Auctions. However, bidding is set to end in a day’s time.
