Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer

Save for the Basecamp which was essentially a revival of the original, the design of the Airstream camper trailers never deviates far from the original design. It has always been the bullet-like aerodynamic form with riveted aluminum panels. Well, that’s until now.

The camper trailer pioneer has teamed up with Studio F.A. Porsche for a modern spin on the iconic trailer targeted at garage-owning urban dwellers. The result is a sleek, futuristic camper called Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer.

The concept travel trailer may have ditched the bullet-shaped form and does away with rivets, but the silhouette of a classic Airstream still sticks. As a boon, it is now also designed with EVs in mind as well as with new kinds of customers in mind.

Understanding that many garage-owning customers would love to own an RV that they can tuck inside their garage when not in use, “garagability” is huge on the design consideration.

The Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer has a lower profile which is coupled with an automatic suspension that allows the trailer’s body to be lowered, thus enabling it to fit into a regular home garage.

One of Airstream’s pride of full interior height to allow a person to stand upright when inside and to give back the height, this concept travel trailer has a pop-up roof.

Another significant design deviation is a new rear shape that sheds air while in motion and a flush underside without drag-creating projections. This aerodynamic improvement should penalize less on EV’s range.

The aforementioned automatic suspension also allows the trailer’s chassis height to be adjusted to reduce aerodynamic drag which should help in the range of the towing vehicle.

Weight reduction is also a key point that saw the Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer employs carbon fiber in some components to minimize weight.

Finally, there is another first for Airstream: a rear hatch. The rear hatch features a hinge-up hatch and a drop-down tailgate that when completely opened, melds inside and outside, creating the ultimate in-touch-with-nature campsite.

Awnings can be attached to the hatch to further expand the shady place. Even when the hatch isn’t open, an innovative interior design and clever use of windows and skylights offer a spacious feel and a connection to the outside.

There are no words if the Airstream Studio F. A. Porsche Concept Travel Trailer will be available. Right now, all we have now is a product page.
