The handheld console space is really heating up. Not only are big players like ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, MSI, and Valve in the game, but every fish in the pond seems to want a piece of the action. And these “fish” are brands you’ve probably never heard of. There’s AYANEO, ONEXFLY, and now, AOKZOE.

The latter had a successful run on Kickstarter a few months ago with its AOKZOE A1X, racking up over 2 million Hong Kong dollars (~255,000 USD) in funding. It joins the growing list of AMD-powered handheld consoles. The device features an AMD Ryzen AI9 HX370 processor paired with a Radeon 890M GPU for smooth gameplay. It has an 8-inch IPS display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support.
Under the hood, this little big guy is packing quite some meat, including 32 or 64 GB of LPDDR5X 7500 RAM and up to 2 TB of M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.
Other notables include a 72.7 Wh battery, redesigned ergonomic linear triggers with 10 mm travel, a 900 Hz polling Hall joystick, and a smart cooling system featuring pure copper heat pipes, aluminum heat sink fins, Honeywell thermal paste, and a centrifugal fan. You also get customizable RGB breathing lights and a host of I/Os, including OcuLink, USB 4.0, USB-A (3.2), a microSD slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The AOKZOE A1X isn’t the brand’s first handheld. There’s the basic A2 and, of course, the original A1. But the A1X is the model that can go head-to-head with mainstream handheld consoles from the aforementioned big brands.
If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you can still pre-order the device from the AOKZOE webstore starting at US$899.
