ASUS ROG Ally Handheld Gaming Console

ASUS just revealed its answer to the hard-to-acquire Steam Deck. ASUS gaming brand, ROG, has posted a video of a ROG Ally Handheld Gaming Console but considering the day of the video posting, this could be an April Fool’s Day prank pulled by ROG, or maybe not.

ROG Ally is totally plausible given ROG’s expertise and experience. It is just a question if the board will green-light it or not. I suspect this is an actual product in the pipeline masquerading as an April Fool’s Day joke to gauge the market interest and/or as part of the publicity running up to its eventual availability.

Anyhoo, not a lot of technical details were offered in the video. However, we do know that it promises true PC performance on a handheld console and it is a Windows gaming handheld device that will allow you to play games from multiple platforms in FHD. The handheld allows key mapping in its setting, too.

According to the video, ROG has partnered with AMD for a custom-made AMD APU that is the fastest yet. We also learned that it features ROG Intelligent Cooling featuring a dual-fan design and support ROG XG Mobile eGPU that will charge your device while letting you game on the big screen.

If you watch the video, you will not feel it is a prank at all. Perhaps, it isn’t. As said, a portable gaming device is totally within ROG’s capability. And perhaps this is really an upcoming product since there is a link in the video’s description that leads to the Best Buy website where you can sign up to be notified when the ROG Ally is available for pre-order. So, it is not a joke after all. Right?
