Barack Obama’s Player Exclusive Nike Hyperdunk

One of the more exciting news this week for sneakers collectors was the possibility of picking up former U.S. President Barack Obama’s Player Exclusive Nike Hyperdunk (note the use of “was”).

This rare pair of sneakers, which is believed that this pair is one of the two in existence, was to go sale on February 12, 2021 at Sotheby’s for US$25,000. As per Sneaker News:

“Believed to be one of only two in existence — the second gifted to Obama himself — the pair comes pristine, in DS condition. The design, though inspired primarily by the former president, draws partially from the “United We Rise” colorway, with Olympic themes dressing much of the shoe’s exterior. Grey side walls contrast adjacent to white leathers and lace units, while navy swooshes, midsoles, and heel supports further accent atop. What’s more, a number of overt references also come into play: the tongue is patched over with the presidential seal and the medial celebrates Obama’s place as the 44th POTUS via bright red embroidery.”

But there’s no need to check your bank account or dream of the prospect of owning this Presidential kicks because, very unfortunately, the sale of the rare sneakers has been pulled from the sale by the consignor for reasons unknown to us. Ugh. What a bummer for sneakers collectors.
