Well, what do you know? There is going to be a new Beetlejuice sequel this Fall. This makes Beetlejuice one of the movies with the longest gap between sequels, after movies like Bambi, Top Guns, and The Matrix. The OG Beetlejuice movie, which stars Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton as the infamous “bio-exorcist” from the Netherworld Betelgeuse, hit the theaters in 1988. It was a huge box-office success.
36 years later, Michael Keaton is reprising his role as the title character in the sequel called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – which is not enough to summon the mischievous demon, btw. The film is directed by OG director of the OG Beetlejuice film Tim Burton. Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara also return for the sequel along with Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe.
“Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”
You can catch the official teaser trailer after the break. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will arrive in theaters on September 06, 2024. The rest of the world where it will be screened is expected to welcome the film earlier starting on September 04, 2024.
