There are backpacks and there is the modular backpack, such as this one from Black Ember that looks a little unconventional. Modularity in bags is not new, but one look at the Black Ember Modular Backpacks, you know they are not your run-of-the-mill bags; it is cool as it is functional, and it is, of course, modular. Being modular and weatherproof, it means it is the one back that sees you through your 9-5, five-day work week and also, the days when you are off, out and about exploring the remote corner of the city, the great wilderness, or even when you hit up your local gym to pump some irons. Created by a team of industrial designers and product developers, the bags are a culmination of over 60 years of experiences in designing and turning out performance soft- and hard goods, and technical equipment, and the results pretty much speaks for themselves.
Key features you can expect include carbonate-coated 1000 denier and micro hex 800-denier ballistic nylon construction – both waterproof, of course, bonded YKK weatherproof urethane-coated zippers, mag-lock magnetic hardware by Fidlock, hybrid flexible internal frame-sheet, bonded and bartacked zippers with integrated low-profile zipper garage, 400D ripstop nylon Silver Lining (for better visibility inside the pack), reinforced zipper welts (primary access zippers), multiple bonded and bartacked hypalon lash points for strapping on everything imaginable (well, almost), flat bases to allow for self-standing, and lightweight internal structure to maintain shape integrity.
Black Ember Modular Backpacks is on its last leg of crowdfunding on Kickstarter and it has since met its funding goal, which means, any pledge would constitute to a pre-order. Black Ember is available in several models: TL3 Pack, Citadel Pack, Holdall Msngr, and DSLR Case, and in three color options, namely jet black, slate blue and black camo.
