Forget about 4K camera cos’ Blackmagic has up its own game with the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. The new 6K device one up its Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K in resolution and does so while retaining the physical size. Though we can’t say the same for the price. But more on that in second.
Stand out features are undoubtedly the Canon EF mount, a Super 35 HDR sensor and very obviously, the ability to record up to 6,144 x 3,456 pixels, 6K resolution, at up to 60 fps or up to 120 fps Windowed.
Other key notables include dual native 400 and 3200 ISO to 25,600, supports still frame capture up to 21.2 MP, built-in 5-inch 1,920 x 1,080 touchscreen monitor, professional audio support with four microphones, support shooting in Blackmagic RAW format, CFast 2.0 and SD/UHS-II card slots, external recording via USB Type-C port, 13-stop dynamic range and 3D LUT support.
Each unit will come bundle with a DaVinci Resolve Studio License to get you started. As impressive as the resolution and features is the price. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K commands a hefty $2,495. Then again, looking at how much some DSLR costs and the fact that it is a cinema camera, it could very be considered a bargain if you are looking for a filmmaking focused setup.
