Bugatti W16 Mistral Fly Bug one-off hypercar with dragonfly-inspired blue finish and Sur Mesure detailing
Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program presents the one-off W16 Mistral “Fly Bug,” a dragonfly-inspired hypercar packed with intricate design details.

What could be a better send-off for the legendary Bugatti W16 engine than a one-off custom ride based on the last Bugatti model powered by the W16 engine, right? That’s exactly what Bugatti’s Sur Mesure did for one esteemed customer. Most one-off Bugattis go loud, but this one, well, it kind of is loud too—just with a bugsy twist.

Folks, this is the Bugatti W16 Mistral “Fly Bug,” the latest Sur Mesure masterpiece. As the name hints, it takes cues from a flying bug—a dragonfly, to be precise—which is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when commissioning a hypercar, but here we are.

Built through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program, the car belongs to a small insect-inspired series. The body is finished in a blue tone that shifts with light, while a field of elliptical shapes spreads across the surface, tightening toward the rear like motion being compressed into the car itself.

And then there’s the iconic Bugatti Macaron. It is not just placed on the car—it is integrated into the design. Bugatti’s ellipse motif spreads across the body and becomes denser toward the rear, almost like motion captured in slow motion. It is subtle from afar, but once you see it, you cannot unsee it. This, IMHO, makes the car even more insect-like.

Underneath all that, it is still the W16 Mistral, which already carries enough presence on its own as the final road-going Bugatti with the W16 engine. But the “Fly Bug” is not about reminding you how fast it is. It is about how far Bugatti is willing to go when someone asks for something completely different. Well, “far” but short of swapping out the entire aero. It will be interesting to see the French hypercar maker do something like this in the future.

It is a one-off custom, so it is not clear how much it costs.
