Short, wide, and unusually exotic, the CALLUM SKYE blends off-road capability with EV performance in a design that looks more buggy than crossover.

The mention of exotic cars usually conjures images of low, wide machines hugging the road like they owe gravity money. Think dramatic silhouettes, sculpted curves, and performance figures that make your pulse jump. But perhaps the definition of “exotic car” needs a slight update. It turns out an exotic doesn’t necessarily have to be flatter than the asphalt beneath it.

Folks, meet the CALLUM SKYE Multi-terrain Vehicle, an upcoming electric performance machine from CALLUM Designs that somehow manages to feel exotic even though it sits much higher off the ground. SUVs rarely qualify for that category, unless you count the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Ferrari Purosangue, or perhaps the Maserati Levante if you stretch the definition a little.

Revealed about a year and a half ago, the SKYE represents a big step for CALLUM. The vehicle is conceived, styled, and engineered entirely in-house, making it the studio’s first own-brand production vehicle. Rather than borrowing an existing platform, the company built the SKYE from scratch. That alone is enough to get enthusiasts paying attention.

The exterior is where things get interesting. The design combines sculpted curves with strong horizontal lines, blending elegance with rugged capability. The result looks less like a typical off-road crossover and more like a mature off-road buggy.

Dimensionally, the SKYE is a bit of an oddball. It measures 4,047 mm long and 1,900 mm wide. That makes it shorter than many compact crossovers—consider that a Volkswagen Golf is about 4,280 mm long and a Mini Countryman around 4,300 mm—but it is unusually wide. The stance ends up looking planted and muscular, which only strengthens our argument that this might actually qualify as an exotic.

Despite the chunky proportions, the SKYE weighs just 1,150 kilograms. Power comes from a 42 kWh battery delivering a projected 170-mile range, with an optional ultra-fast charging setup capable of replenishing the battery in under 10 minutes. CALLUM has not revealed the full powertrain yet, but the company says 0–60 mph will happen in under four seconds.

The SKYE will come in two flavors: an on-road-first model and an off-road-first version. The road-focused version offers a smoother, more refined ride while still retaining impressive off-road capability. But if your destiny lies on beaten tracks and rough terrain, the off-road-first version is the one to pick. CALLUM describes it as the “ultimate multi-terrain vehicle”, engineered specifically for rugged environments. This variant appears to do away with doors altogether, or at least allows them to be removed completely, leaning even further into its off-road buggy character.

Inside, the cabin keeps things minimal and futuristic. A 2+2 enclosed layout features a floating center console bridge with rotary touchscreen dials controlling HVAC and other functions. Meanwhile, a touchscreen in the center will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin is set up with two cossetting sports seats up front, and at the back, there is a bench seat suitable for children. The bench is removable, allowing you to create a configurable load space for hauling gear.

The CALLUM SKYE is still in development. CALLUM recently shared an update. The battery installation is done, and so are the initial shakedown runs. It is now progressing to the next phase. The car has also seen its first real-world testing.

Meanwhile, the CALLUM SKYE Multi-terrain Vehicle is available to configure, with the first deliveries expected to start sometime in summer 2026. Prices range from £80,000 to £110,000 (about US$105,900 to US$145,607).
