Lamborghini Urus SE Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Super SUV

It will be a while before Lamborghini’s first fully electric Ultra GT, the Lanzandor, hits the market. Meanwhile, the Italian supercar maker is offering an intermediary option for users looking to reduce their carbon footprint. It’s not a new model, but rather a hybrid version of the Urus.

The Lamborghini Urus SE, as it is called, is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid Super SUV. It was revealed at the Volkswagen Group Media Night and premiered at the ongoing Auto China Beijing 2024 (April 25 to May 04, 2024, at the New China International Exhibition Centre).

Featuring a new design and optimized aerodynamics inspired by Lamborghini’s Revuelto, the Lamborghini Urus SE is powered by a re-engineered twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine paired with an electric powertrain.

The fossil fuel-powered motor produces 620 CV and delivers 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, while the electric powertrain develops 192 CV and 483 Nm (356 lb-ft) of torque. Together, the two powertrains produce 800 CV and 950 Nm (701 lb-ft). If those who have noticed… don’t ask where the 12 CV and 333 Nm went—I have no idea, I ain’t no engineer.

The electric motor—a permanent-magnet synchronous motor—resides in the 8-speed automatic transmission and can serve as a boost for the V8 engine as well as a traction element, thus making the Urus SE a true electric 4WD.

The Urus SE features an electric-only mode where the electric motor’s 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, located below the load floor and above the electronically-controlled rear differential, provides over 60 km (approximately 37 miles) of pure EV range. The eLSD offers “on demand” oversteering when you want the feeling of driving a purebred super sports car.

Also debuting in the new hybrid Urus is a centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch that continuously adjusts the driving torque between the front and rear axles.

The hybrid Urus boasts an enhanced weight-to-power ratio of 3.13 kg/CV. It is capable of completing the century sprint (0-100 km/h; 0-62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, reaching 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in only 11.2 seconds, and has a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph). So, yes, it is the most powerful Urus ever and the fastest production car in the segment—a true king of Super SUVs.
