I’m sure you’ve seen movies that feature high-tech homes with patrolling drones and security cameras capable of immobilizing intruders like the Portal Turret. The former has been a reality for a few of years now, and lately, the latter is also becoming a reality in our lifetime, albeit not as deadly.
Folks, meet the EVE PaintCam Security Camera. The PaintCam is not a camera that lets you watch someone paint. It is more akin to a “PainCam” because this device packs a paintball launcher that can make intruders goes “ouch” if they insist on trespassing onto your property. Where states/regions allow, it can even launch tear gas.
The paintball marker can autonomously or manually launch paintballs or UV paint at intruders. Like the flying security drone, this device is both exciting and somewhat dystopian. I mean, what has our society come to that we need to use force to keep people from targeting our property? It doesn’t quite fit the image of a first-world nation, does it? Yet, here we are.
The PaintCam isn’t just about giving trespassers a painful or paint-ful experience; it is also equipped with AI. Of course, it is—these days, AI is the buzzword. The camera is trained to recognize threats and is billed as the world’s first to use AI decision-making and smart targeting. The camera and the paintball launcher work seamlessly to offer active defense.
Other highlights include laser marking (plus a warning laser), premium sensors, a high-resolution camera, motion detection, AI human and pet recognition, face detection, a built-in sound dispatcher, night vision capability, and 360° rotation for all-around security coverage.
There are three models of the EVE PaintCam Security Camera: EVE, EVE+, and EVE Pro. The EVE+ includes everything the EVE has, plus animal recognition, and the EVE Pro is the EVE+ with added face recognition.
If you’re intrigued, you can learn more about the PaintCam Security Camera with Paintball Launcher on Kickstarter, where you can secure a unit by pledging €1,190 or more (or about US$1,276 or more, according to Kickstarter). The campaign has met its funding goal, so the product is a go. All that’s left to do is for PaintCam to fulfill the orders.
But, as with any Kickstarter, it has its risks, so make sure you know what you’re getting into. The campaign has 32 days to go, but I was rather surprised that, despite the novelty of a paintball launcher, it hasn’t gotten as much attention as expected. It could be that not everywhere allows paintballs outside of gaming grounds. Or the legal implications if someone was to be injured in the process. I don’t know.
