DIY Portal Turret Replica by Joran de Raaff

It has been a decade and a half since Valve’s Portal video game was released. Speaking of the game, the Portal Gun and the Portal Turret, aka Aperture Science Sentry Turret, were two icons born out of the game which, a decade on, some people are still building them.

Well, the “some people” were maybe just Dutch video game developer/musician Joran de Raaff. Funnily enough, though, there were other “some people” who built the Portal Turret from the 2011’s sequel, Portal 2, around the same time but if you ask me, Raaff’s version of Aperture Science Sentry Turret might just be the best version yet if you want all the works – except for killing people.

What makes this particular version deadly, wait no, I mean one of the best – if not the best – is not because of the obligatory cute, robotic voice that lures you in for the kill but its ability to simulate the firing of its two dual machine guns – complete with sound and light effects, and recoil.

That’s not all, the turret can actually rotate, albeit not by a whole lot – thanks to a custom gearbox design. Absolutely brilliant. You can see Raaff’s Portal Turret replica in action in the video below, or if you are interested in building one yourself, Raaff has also offered up the build guide HERE.
