One more G-Shock news before we move on to other topics. What you see here is yet another commemorative timepiece. This time, it is a very special double-anniversary wristwatch that celebrates both the 40 years of G-Shock and the Frogman’s 30th anniversary.
The Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A9 Diving Watch features a special color: yellow which was used for the first Frogman. Based on the MRG-BF1000 a premium, full-metal G-Shock MR-G timepiece for the sea featuring the iconic asymmetrical design, the MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A9 has a titanium exterior with a multi-component structure paired with a vivid yellow fluoro-rubber Dura Soft band that offers high resistance against staining and hydrolysis.
The case is accented with FROGMAN branding in yellow and a dial face boasting raised index marks hand-painted with a generous layer of glow-in-the-dark yellow phosphorescent paint for the outstanding visibility you need when underwater. The pure titanium case is treated with a deep-layer hardening process, DLC coating, and gold-colored ion plating on the crown, buttons, and screws for even greater strength.
The case further touts an O-ring waterproof seal to further boost its water resistance and special buffers to strengthen the shock-resistant structure. That’s in addition to a protective structure with fluoro rubber buffers installed between the multiple bezel parts.
Around the back, the G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A9 has a sapphire crystal press-fitted into the titanium screw-lock case back to ensure a highly airtight structure with ISO 200-meter water resistance while maintaining the built-in antenna’s radio wave reception sensitivity. The case back is quite a sight to behold, IMHO; in addition to a sapphire crystal finished in gold vapor deposition, it has engravings of the first-generation Frogman diving frog character alongside the words “G-SHOCK 40TH” and “FROGMAN 30TH”.
A few other key highlights include a full analog display for dive and tide mode, tide graphs for around 3,300 points around the world with local time, solar-powered, Bluetooth and radio control for enhanced accuracy and reliability, app-enabled, Super Illuminator (high-brightness LED light), and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
Limited to 700 pieces worldwide in special sets that include an interchangeable titanium band and a dedicated tool for swapping out the bands, the double-anniversary Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A9 Diving Watch can be yours for a cool US$6,400.
