surfboard’s land-based counterpart has gone into powered propulsion, so it is only a matter of time before we see the same in bodyboarding and surfboarding. in fact, it seems to be that way with Wavejet, a patented Personal Water Propulsion (PWP) engine that is designed specifically for watercraft use which includes surfboard, kayak, kiteboard and the likes. despite it’s slimline form factor, the Wavejet is capable of 20 lbs of thrust. Pathfinder is a submarine that crawls along the ocean floor

Phil Pauley Pathfinder 544x348px

from the British designer who dreamt up of the Halo Intersceptor, comes a submarine that crawls the ocean floor with either wheels or tracks – literally. sounds ridiculous? or perhaps it sounds like a vehicle from the 1960s sci-fi movies? nevertheless, whatever we think, it doesn’t stop Phil Pauley from dreaming up this vehicle, dubbed the Pathfinder. the Pathfinder will take part in an imaginary Transatlantic Seafloor Research Challenge where the sub will be driven along the ocean floor for as long as possible, traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States in the fastest possible time. this imaginary endeavor will takes between two to four weeks, during which the sub is expected to be remain submerged. during this period, the sub would be supported by ROV-equipped surface vessel providing critical power and life support systems to the Pathfinder via umbilical cable. Manta is a three-wheel amphibious electric concept vehicle

Manta Amphibious Vehicle by David Cardoso Loureiro image4 600x420px

another concept that draws our attention, however, being a concept, it may not necessary be practical. so let’s just bear that in mind when we are viewing a concept. the Manta is a three-wheel amphibious personal transport designed to run on a pair of electric motors driving the rear wheels. the rear wheels also doubles as the vehicle’s propulsion when in water. the sports wheels are designed to be real working propellers, so when the rear wheels are turned 90 degree, the wheels becomes the propeller for the vehicle. each wheel would be individually powered, which in theory, could enable steering of the vehicle in the water. but i would imagine the huge turning radius it would make. being independently powered means some form of synchronization has to be in place to ensure that both wheels are traveling at the same speed when traveling on land. nevertheless, the idea and the aesthetic is great. i will take two! there are no fancy cutting edge tech here but the beauty lies in the fact that this boat was designed with cues from the classic boat of the yesteryear. what makes this boat special (no, not the price but we come to that later) is that the interior has been liberated by the magical hands of Belgium design duo, Studio Job and the exterior bolded up by nautical architect Willem Nieland. we do not know how else to put it but simply to say that this boat has every attention to details – from the teak wood used throughout the ship’s interior including the doors, the deck furniture to the meticulous symbols curved into the door knobs to the sofa adorn with subtle prints of Moby dick, anchors and so on.
