CuBowl Antibacterial Pet Bowl

Unbeknownst to most pet owners, even the simplest of act of drinking from a plastic pet bowl could cause harm to your fido or kitty in long run. Why? Bacteria. That’s why. You may not have microscopic eyes to see them, but you will know they are out there partying, ready to get into the guts of your beloved pets, when the bowl develops a slimy, gooey layer when left unwashed for a prolong period of time. That glue-like build up, called biofilm, is a home created by the bacteria to prevent them from being washed away easily. Sometimes, these bacteria have guests too, like, you know, viruses since the biofilm is pretty much a safe haven for all things nasty. Naturally, biofilm is bad news for your dog or cat. This is where CuBowl comes in.

‘Cu’ is the Periodic symbol of copper which is actually the plating material of the bowl and copper, according to microbiologist, has the natural ability to create an oligodynamic effect, which kills bacteria and viruses with an effectiveness of up to 99.999 percent. Pretty cool, eh? And since the bacteria are eliminated, the slimy surface won’t develop, which means less cleaning for pet owner and a safer drinking water for your pets. I guess it is a win-win situation and the uber cool look of copper is just an awesome side bonus.

Speaking of which, if copper isn’t your cuppa, CuBowl is also offering silver-plated variety which, according to the company, works just the same as copper in combating bacteria buildup. In case you didn’t get, the bowl isn’t made of copper, that would be too soft to be of any practical use and that’s not mention the eventual price tag; instead it is plated and also, CuBowl is strictly for water only as it is not lacquered, i.e. not protected with coating, and as such certain pet food may contain acidic substances which can leach the copper plating over time. Silver-plated version, on the other hand, is both safe for food and water.

CuBowl is available on Kickstarter where you can pre-order one for $21-45, depending on the size and the plating type. As with any Kickstarter campaign, the fate of the product is pretty much in the crowd’s hands and assuming if all worked out, delivery should happen around August 2016.
