Doritos unveils Doritos Silent, an innovative ‘crunch-cancellation’ technology specifically designed for PC gamers to enjoy their favorite snack without disturbing others. A recent study highlighted that 85 percent of gamers prefer Doritos as their go-to snack, revealing a global demand for a solution to eliminate crunching noises during gaming sessions.
Acknowledging the love for the signature crunch, ‘crunch-cancellation technology’ by Doritos maintains the crunch experience while ensuring fellow gamers or their fans aren’t disrupted. Fernando Kahane, PepsiCo’s Global Marketing Head, emphasized the strong connection between Doritos fans and the gaming community, stating that ‘Doritos Silent’ underscores the brand’s commitment to innovation and enhancing the gaming experience.
Developed in collaboration with Smooth Technology, the cutting-edge ‘crunch cancellation’ technology underwent a six-month development phase, analyzing over 5,000 distinct crunch sounds. Dylan Fashbaugh, the lead developer at Smooth Technology, highlighted the goal of allowing gamers to relish Doritos’ crunch without interrupting their gameplay.
The initiative aims to benefit the 80 percent of millennials and Gen Z identified as gamers. Doritos teased the concept via social media and advertisements across multiple countries, depicting Doritos chips replacing noise-canceling headphones, ensuring a ‘silent’ experience for users.
