We familiar with sports involving boards and towing, such as kiteboarding and wake boarding, for examples. And somewhere in between these two sports, there’s an emerging board sport that crosses path with technology and it is known as droneboarding. It takes no effort to imagine what it is. That’s right, droneboarding is what it says it is, which involves a regular snowboard and a rope tethered to a drone on one end, and a handle on the other. It basically shares the principles as the aforementioned sports, except that the thing that’s towing the rider is a drone.
Before you get all gaga about it, you have to know that it won’t a be real sport per se cos’ in order to haul a grown person behind it, the drone has to be ridiculously powerful. Perhaps, a tune-down Predator kind of drone, adapted to do VTOL, will do the job nicely. Why? As you can see in the embedded video below, the touted ‘droneboarding’ was done by a kid in comfy and warm winter wear who was tugged along by a regular drone at a speed that’s anything but exhilarating. So, yeah. Droneboarding is not going to make it to the X-Games anytime soon. The concept sure sound like fun, though.
If you really look at it, droneboarding could be considered as a variant of kiteboarding, as both sports involve rider being pull along by a flying object. The only difference is, the drone is controlled as opposed to kiteboarding which depends very much on the wind. Go ahead and check out the video. P.S. it is OK to blink your eyes how many times you want, because you are not going to miss any action, or lack thereof.
