Dyson shrinks its Supersonic hair dryer by 32% and adds universal voltage support, making the Supersonic Travel a powerful companion for styling on the go.

Most people are fine with any hotel’s hairdryer. But if, for some reason, you need your Dyson Supersonic on the road with you, well, Dyson has you covered, too. The Supersonic has been shrunken to be more suitable for travel. Aptly called Dyson Supersonic Travel, it is 32% smaller and 25% lighter, while still retaining the powerful drying capabilities and fast drying speed.

Well, about that. Dyson said it is “still mighty,” but I guess it is true relative to the new, smaller stature. It is not an engineering miracle, though it is a testament to Dyson’s miniaturization technology, which it did for the PencilVac and PencilWash, and more recently, for its first handheld fan, HushJet. That said, Dyson’s latest fad appears to be shrinking its digital motor.

Anyhoo, back to the “still mighty.” It is not entirely through looking at the numbers, but the Supersonic Travel is indeed powerful for what it is. Having said that, something’s gotta give, right? For starters, power/heating got cut. It has 3 heat levels and 2 speeds as opposed to the regular-size Supersonic’s 4 heat levels and 3 speeds. Naturally, the power is lower. The Travel is rated at 1,000–1,220 watts and has a max airflow of 11.6 L/s. To put the power in context, the OG is 1,600 watts and produces up to 13.3 L/s of airflow.

Size-wise, it is 68 mm tall, 222 mm long, and 71 mm wide, and weighs 0.331 kg. Meanwhile, the regular Supersonic is 76.97 mm tall, 288.3 mm long, and 97.84 mm wide, and tips the scales at 0.675 kg. Another trade-off is that the smaller Supersonic does not have negative ions.

The compact size means you can stash this world-renowned hairdryer in handbags, carry-on bags, and suitcases, ensuring you have access to a top-rated hair grooming gadget wherever you go. The Supersonic Travel features Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology and boasts intelligent heat control that keeps the temperature constant, unlike conventional hairdryers that feel like they are about to go nuclear if you blow-dry for too long. Constant temperature makes sure hair drying is not hair thrashing.

The hair dryer also touts Dyson’s first universal voltage. This means it automatically adapts to the local voltage (100–240 V), wherever you are in the world. Finally, it may be smaller, but it can still use the attachments of your existing Dyson Supersonic or Dyson Supersonic Nural Shine.

The Dyson Supersonic Travel Hair Dryer has been launched in several countries, including the U.K. (£249.99), Japan (42,799 yen), Singapore (S$399), Hong Kong (HK$2,490), Taiwan (NT$9,990), Indonesia (IDR 5,299,000), and more.
