Ueshima Coffee Co., or better known as UCC, is the pioneer of canned coffee with milk (that was 1969, btw). The company’s canned milk coffee rose to fame among anime fans when it appeared in 1995’s Neon Genesis Evangelion and subsequently in 1997’s Evangelion feature film, The End of Evangelion.
Since 1997, UCC had done several tie-ins with the cult anime franchise. Altogether, there are six sets of Evangelion labeled UCC Milk Coffee Can – including the latest, the UCC Milk Coffee Can 250g (EVA2020). Yes. That’s right. There are more UCC canned milk coffee to collect.
The latest collaboration is announced ahead of the release of the new Evangelion film, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 set to hit Japan’s theaters in June.
Characters featured on the cans include Rei Ayanami (First Child), Asuka Langley Soryu (Second Child), Shinji Ikari (Third Child), Kaworu Nagisa (Fifth Child), Mari Makinami Illustrious (pilot of Evangelion Provisional Unit-05) and members of the WILLE (from the third Evangelion film, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo).
Limited quantities of the Evangelion x UCC Milk Coffee Can will go on sale at retailers across Japan starting April 20 as well as EVA vending machines (pictured below). The price per can is 110 yen plus tax (or about $1.06+).
