Weight-saving is critical to performance cars, but not so much for a SUV. However, it is equally important to Bentley. The luxury marque’s coachbuilding division, Mulliner, had spent the last five years working with Bucci Composites to develop the largest carbon fiber wheel which is also the first carbon wheel to pass TÜV testing.
The Bentley Bentayga 22” Carbon Fiber Wheel is said to offer a weight saving of 6 kilograms (13.2 lbs) per wheel over the aluminum examples. As far as weighing goes, 24 kilograms (53 lbs) is virtually insignificant when compared to the nearly 2.5 tonnes vehicle.
However, the decease in unsprung mass will result in more responsive braking. Now, that kind of makes sense because, the Bentley Bentayga is kind of a beast of SUV.
The increased strength and stiffness offered by carbon fiber also results in other benefits, including increased impact safety due to the material weave diapering air loss, increased steering agility, and reduced tire wear.
Not going to lie. The Bentley Bentayga 22” Carbon Fiber Wheel is one hell of a looker and it will complement Bentley’s existing range of carbon fiber products. The Bentley Bentayga 22” Carbon Fiber Wheel will be order through Mulliner later this year. Price is not known yet.
