Not every electric head who loves the Hummer can afford to pony up the kind of money like Arnie to turn a gas-powered Hummer into an EV. Thankfully, you don’t need to go through the hassle of electric conversion because, there’s the 2022 GMC Hummer EV.
Teased earlier this year, the first electric Hummer is formally announced today and boy, are we pumped. We love how the iconic look of the Humvee is present in this futuristic supertruck.
Powered by GM’s proprietary EV drive units, Ultium Drive and the newly-developed Ultium batteries, the Hummer EV develops up to 1,000 horses, turns out an absolutely mind-bending 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm!!!) of torque, and wipes 0-60 in 3 seconds. A truck! Imagine that.
Those numbers are just scratching the surface. This big guy has more to it. It is designed to please serious off-road enthusiasts. For starter, it has 4-wheel-drive, 4-wheel steer for small turning radius and maneuverability, and enable a feature known as “CrabWalk” that allows it to move diagonally.
And then there is the adaptive air suspension, featuring Extract Mode that raises the vehicle 6 inches for clearing boulders or fording water.
The GMC Hummer EV further features underbody armor, 35-inch-OD Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, UltraVision front and rear underbody cameras, off-road widgets that display vehicle functions and terrain on the infotainment, 800-volt DC public fast charging, the latest version of Super Cruise for hands-free driving on enabled roads, and an estimated range of over 350 miles (563 kilometers) on a single full charge.

You may also reserve your very own 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 today too. But, as you may have noted, don’t expect it to arrive until Fall 2021 the earliest. Prices start at US$112,595. Prices for other models, namely Hummer EV2, Hummer EV2X and Hummer EV3X, start at US$79,995.
However, those models will have an even longer wait with the 3X being the earliest to be available in Fall 2022.
