Hermès is an honest-to-goodness fashion brand. It does not usually take the novelty route that turns heads like, say, Balenciaga. OK. Maybe sometimes. But that is not the point. The point is that it is a brand you look to for classy, well-designed products, not shock value. That’s that.

But today we learned that even when Hermès does take the novelty route, it kind of nails it. I mean, a bag in the likeness of a boombox? It actually fits as a daily carry, unlike a lifebuoy, a lobster, or an airplane.
Called the Plume Boombox Bag, or more formally, the Plume Fourre-Tout On Radio Bag, this head-turning, large-size handbag debuted at the Hermès Men’s Fall-Winter 2026 runway show. It is a highly limited, sculptural leather handbag that pays homage to 1980s hip-hop culture. It takes Hermès’ classic Plume silhouette and reimagines it as a vintage portable radio and cassette player.
The front of the bag is where all the action happens. It features intricate leather appliqués like raised speaker grilles, and an analog radio tuner complete with a frequency scale created using debossed numbers and an indicator, which cleverly doubles as the zipper of the external pocket. There is also a raised equalizer alongside what appear to be bass and treble knobs, also raised, no less.
Finally, it has a cassette deck that, wait for it, opens to reveal a removable cassette tape, which is actually a wallet. Wait, what? That’s pretty damn cool, IMHO. The tape deck is complete with raised playback-button motifs.
It is a big bag with a voluminous interior, though it does not appear to have internal pockets. I could be wrong. It will be available in black and brown calfskin leather. Pricing has not been announced.
