The line between smartwatches and traditional timepieces is now further blurred by the Honor Watch GS 3 Smartwatch. Well, aesthetically speaking, that is.
At a glance, the new GS 3 smartwatch looks like a traditional watch – thanks in part to the 3D curved glass that gives the illusion of physical hands and dial. Not going to lie, I am kind of sold by the looks.
The GS 3 is a departure from the brand’s smartwatch design which is traditionally the rugged look. The Honor Watch GS 3 Smartwatch is without doubt Honor’s answer to the dress smartwatch.
Fit for black tie events smartwatch is not new but certainly not in this price bracket. Speaking of which, the Honor Watch GS 3 Smartwatch has a starting price of 1,299 yuan which works out to be about US$204.
The watch is not gender-specific but the fact that it has a 45.9 mm case means it is mostly for men who have larger wrists. However, aesthetically, it is gender-neutral. There’s even an 18K rose gold variety that has 85% real gold plating on it.
Anywho, like a dress watch proper, it is super low profile – at just 10.5 mm thin and tips the scales at a mere 44g (1.55 oz.). Further reinforcing the notion of a dress watch is the Nappa leather strap that it came with. Although there is a model that is offered with a regular rubber strap.
The 45.9 mm 316L stainless steel case is paired with a large 1.43-inch AMOLED touch display and it has two physical buttons which are user-customizable.
And then, there’s the usual suite of sensors like heart rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer et cetera. It is worthy to mention that the heart rate sensor further boasts an 8-channel AI heart rate engine that is said to be able to accurately capture heart rate.
The processor has not been disclosed but we do know that it has 4 GB onboard storage that can store up to 500 songs – if you so desire, and sadly, it has just 32 MB RAM. These days, smartwatches, regardless of the OS, would have at least a gigabyte. Just saying…
A few other notables include 5ATM (50 meters or 164 feet) water resistance, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, built-in speaker and microphone, and up to 14 days of battery life on a single charge.
The Honor Watch GS 3 is available to order in China for the aforementioned starting price of 1,299 yuan.
